Iran protests - A week in pictures

Reports from Tehran that "there was a very palpable lack of fear among people" during the memorial rallies on Thursday.

30/7/2009 Behesht Zahra, Tehran Opposition supporters and mourners met at the grave of Neda Agha-Soltan to mark the 40 day anniversary. Reports say that 40,000 attended the memorial and there were some clashes between pro-reformists and police.

30/7/2009 Trafalgar Square, London Susan Macaulay held a lone protest and two minute silence in London's Trafalgar Square. However, her protest was cut short when she was moved on by police after failing to apply for a permit.




30/7/2009 Union Square Park, New York Members of the New York chapter of 'United4Iran' held a silent candlelit vigil in memory of Neda Agha-Soltan, marking the 40 day anniversary of her death. Organisers say that over 400 people participated in the event from 7.30-9.30pm.

30/7/2009 San Francisco A similar event, to that in New York, was held in San Francisco. The vigil was in memorial of Neda Agha-Soltan and the other dead of post-election protests in Iran. Participants held placards with images of those who had been killed.

30/7/2009 Vienna, Austria A group of around 25 people took place in a flashmob outside the Parliament building in Vienna as part of the 'silent wave' in memorial of Iran's protest dead. Participants, wearing green and black, dropped to the floor at 6.30pm and stayed still and silent for two minutes.
